Who We Are

A Storied Escape

The roots of Drifthaven run deep in Gearhart’s history and continue to influence our vision to this day. Blending blissful comfort with undisturbed coastal charm, legend has it that the cottages of our historic hotel were built completely from driftwood washed ashore. Naturally, Drifthaven is named for this driftwood, which still appears on the beaches nearby.

Our Mission

By celebrating the uniqueness of Gearhart and the coast of Oregon, Drifthaven creates a distinctive nod to history while embracing new things to come.

Our Backstory

During World War II, William and Harold Tyberg - sons of one of Gearhart’s earliest landowners - began building a place with rooms for rent on North Cottage Avenue, near Pacific Way. It’s said that these cottages were built entirely from driftwood, which can be traced back to freighters and barges sailing south with lumber from Oregon forests.

Our Town

Located just three miles north of Seaside, Gearhart is a quaint coastal town filled with rolling dunes, grassy fields, and unspoiled views of the natural landscape.
