Fall Events on the Oregon Coast
Autumn along the Oregon coast brings a quieter rhythm—misty mornings, wide-open beaches, and a calendar of nearby events that add a sense of local connection to a stay at Drifthaven at Gearheart.
September begins with Manzanita’s Muttzanita on September 6, a playful beach gathering where dogs take the spotlight in costume contests and games, all in support of a local animal rescue. The following weekend, September 12–14, the Cannon Beach Cottage and Garden Tour opens the doors to historic homes and lush gardens, with proceeds benefiting the Cannon Beach History Center and Museum.
October brings opportunities to experience the coast from new perspectives. The Great Columbia Crossing 10k on October 12 allows participants to step onto the Astoria-Megler Bridge, usually reserved for cars, and take in sweeping views of the Columbia River. For a slower pace, the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad Fall Excursion rolls through forests and along Nehalem Bay in vintage cars, with a stop in Wheeler for a glimpse of small-town coastal life.
After an outing at one of these fall events, evenings in Gearhart invite simple pleasures—whether it’s a walk to the shoreline, a stop at a local restaurant, or the comfort of settling back into Drifthaven.
