Summer Events on the Coast

Summer arrives on the Oregon Coast with long golden evenings, salt-tinged breezes, and a calendar full of reasons to linger a little longer. A stay at Drifthaven puts you close to some of the season's most beloved events, each one worth planning a trip around.

In June, Cannon Beach hosts its annual Sandcastle Contest on June 20 Cannon Beach, a tradition that transforms the shoreline into an open-air gallery of astonishing sculpted artistry. It's equal parts spectacle and community, with something to marvel at around every corner.

Later in June, the Astoria Scandinavian Midsummer Festival takes over the Clatsop County Fairgrounds from June 19–21 Fairs and Festivals, bringing Nordic music, dancing, a Viking encampment, traditional foods, and a genuine sense of celebration that has anchored the North Coast calendar for generations.

July brings fireworks over the Columbia and the easy rhythm of warm afternoons, ideal for beach walks, borrowed bikes from The Garage, and evenings around the fire pit.

Then in August, Seaside hosts the largest beach volleyball tournament in North America, drawing over 40,000 people from around the globe for five days of competition on the Oregon Coast. The energy is electric, even if you're just watching from the sidelines.

Between events, Drifthaven remains the quiet constant: a comfortable place to return to, exhale, and let the coast do what it does best.
